Three revered makeup artists, three capsule color collections , three signature makeup styles, and Mac Cosmetics equals… the fifty piece Mac Makeup Art Collection for Spring and Summer 2017. It features three capsule collections that reflect each artist’s signature style, and their collaboration with Mac Cosmetics. The Mac Art capsule collections are Mac x Kabuki Magic; Mac x James Kaliardos Collection, and Mac x Diane Kendel Capsule Collection.
Makeup Artist Kabuki’s capsule collection consists of 23 items , and what pleases Kabuki most about the collection is the items in his collection cannot be found anywhere else. His products have the boldest colors in the Art Collection. They are a bit intimidating for the meek at heart . Kabuki wants his customers to be “willing to experiment with more products, and even to go deeper then that by mixing shades together, and using more layers, to discover the magic that can be created with makeup.
Kabuki ‘s The Shining Hour Dazzle Shadow ($32) is a limited edition eye shadow palette , consisting of four shadows. I chose this particular palette, because Kabuki uses these richly pigmented and lightly saturated formulas , which are based on a neutral palette that Kabuki uses most frequently with his clients. This eye shadow quad contains the shades :
Humoresque – a light burgundy pearl with teal reflects
Last Dance – a light pink pearl with violet reflects, this one is a duo-chromatic shadow
Heaven Loves You – a gold pearl with gold reflects
Letty Lynton – white pearl with white reflects
Kabuki ‘s focus has always been precision, and with that in mind he created two precision brushes to apply the shadows in his collection.
283 SE Small Duo Fibre Eye Brush ($32) – this is a Kabuki Magic special edition, small brush for applying and blending both powder and cream shadows.
218 SE Kabuki Magic Precision Brush ($30) – a special edition fine-penciled brush for precise lid, crease, and lash line shading.
Kabuki also includes individual dazzle shadows, retro matte lipsticks, and a blush duo in his 23 piece collection collaboration.
James Kaliardos is a master makeup artist, who has star clients like Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Julianne Moore. He has worked with the most famous photographers of our time. Kaliardos is inspired by natural realism. I purchased the most products from this collection, because I felt the collection was the most wearable of the three capsule collections. In the Mac x James Kaliardos Collection, James was inspired by already existing shades in Mac’s archives, especially those featuring jeweled tones, natural minerals, and celestial objects. In his collection, there are lipsticks, pressed pigments, double-deckered compacts, and eye shadows. I love his Into The Well Shadows, because they are pressed, have a well in them, and were realistic, wearable shades that have the versatility of being a shadow or a liner. I also love the pressed pigments, that can be worn wet or dry, with different effects. I love the Full face Kits, which are wearable and the shades are beautiful.
Kaliardos’ Into The Well Shadows ($17.50) – a pressed powder eye shadow/eye liner with an indentation “well” in the center to hold a drop of water.
Into The Well Shadows come in two shades :
Matte Galena is a mid-toned cool Blue matte
Midnight Tryst is a deep warm Brown
He has two Pressed Pigments ($22) in the Collection – shadows with extreme pearlescence and versatility. When used dry the shadow is sparkling and translucent, when used wet the shadow is glossy with high shimmer and saturated color.
Black Grape – a Mac repromote, a deep aubergine shade with multi- pearl frost
Light Touch – a high pearled powder in a light frosted shade
There are four Lipsticks ($17) in the Kaliardos Collection for defining and shading the lips. They each come in a different texture.
Almondine – a lippy pink lustre
Coral Bliss – a light frosted coral creamsheen
Jasper – a deep reddish-brown satin
Bloodstone – bluish mid-tone red amplified
The Jumbo Penultimate Eye Liner ($21) is a Jumbo, liquid, pen-style liner that gives you the ultimate bold line.
It comes in one shade, Rapidblack – a true black.
The Full Face Kit comes in two shades The Moons of Jupiter is the darker of the two.
The Moons of Saturn are lighter. Each comes in a double-decker compact, with the two cream shades, a highlighter and a blush on top that slide over, and you’ll find a powder bronze contour shade on the bottom.
The Moons of Saturn shades-
Gypsum – a golden champagne pearl with silver reflects in a cream color base
Rhea – a pink-coral cream color base
Natural Sandstone – a warm bronze matte powder
Diane Kendel is another superstar makeup artist whose makeup performs on the fashion runways , in ad campaigns, and on the stars. Diane’s inspiration for her Capsule Collection for Mac was 1970’s Mary Quant, and Biba makeup.
Diane loves creamy textures best, which plays a big part in her collection.
Kajal Crayon ($18) comes in three shades. I love the fact that it can go in the waterline in one swipe. It is super creamy, long wearing , bold color. The shades are :
Flourish Me Deep – a rich black
Flourish Me Bold – a bright indigo blue
Flourish Me Vibrant – a vibrant teal green
Cream Eye Shadow X 6 Glamorize Me Palette ($40) is a cream eye shadow palette with six pearlescent medium shades that are creamy and buildable.
Glowing – a light pearl
Dynamic – a reddish-bronze with pearl
Alluring – a royal purple with pearl
Enigmatic – a reddish-plum with pearl
Daring – navy blue with pearl
Rebellious -deep blackened brown with pearl
Mac Studio Quick Trik Stick/Diane Kendel ($32) is a sheer, double ended stick , with a creamy sheer buildable formula for contouring, highlighting and bronzing. It comes in two shades.
Sheen/Smouldering-a very light pinkish champagne shimmer/ a warm deep brown matte
Each collection is unique to each of the artists. I love products from all of the capsules.
It was really a lot fun to see different perspectives from different artists, which really shows in their individual collections!
