Nars Limited Edition Unrated Eyeshadow Palette Spring/Summer 2022

Last week was Daylight Savings, and the clock struck Spring when the Nars Limited Edition Spring/Summer Unrated Summer Collection hit the stores.  The collection is small, with only three products.   First, is the Nars Orgasm Lip Mask. I passed on this because I need another lip mask like never!  Unless, of course it was new and exciting.  Another Orgasm product just doesn’t excite me anymore.  Also, the collection includes three Nars Unrated Blushes, three palettes each includes a blush and a bronzer. Orgasm/Laguna is one of the three.  Need I say more?  These shades are the most popular shades of blush and bronzer in the Nars Collection.  Therefore, it is obvious I passed on the Unrated Blush and Bronze palettes.  Which leaves me purchasing the Nars Unrated Eyeshadow Palette.

You can find the Nars Unrated Eyeshadow Palette at Ulta, and on the Nars Cosmetics Website.   The Unrated Eyeshadow Palette ( 16 X (0.03 0z. / 1g ) costs $59.

I know, I know what you are thinking.  This collection is duping over and over again.  Why? Because, Nars sticks to what is safe.  In other words, Nars knows the shades that you like.  Wouldn’t you rather have a palette with the shades that you like? I would. Then you wouldn’t have to jump around to other palettes, finding the shades you like, to go with the shades in a palette that might only have 2 or 3 shades that you really love.  I am at fault for this, purchasing an entire palette for just a few shades.  Actually, Nars is really smart, giving us the shades that they know we will use.  Often!

It makes me sad, that Nars once was cruelty-free! Then Nars decided to conquer the Chinese market in 2017. Animal testing is required by law in order to sell cosmetics in mainland China. Therefore, even though the brand might not carry on animal testing themselves, their products are testing on animals by third party companies.  Plus, their parent company is Shiseido, well-known for not being cruelty-free.  Also, Nars is not Vegan.  Although a few products might be vegan, most of them contain animal-derived ingredients such as beeswax or lanolin.  Also, Shiseido, the parent company, is actively attempting to keep their packaging sustainable, recyclable, and have a smaller environmental footprint. I know I go on and on with  these issues, and I am happy that the parent company is in the process of making their products sustainable and eco-friendly.

The outer packaging box is signature Nars – matte black.  What is different is the writing on the box, which is a pink shade that has a metallic shift finish.  The rich pink compact lid is reflective – it picks up every fingerprint.  Still it is really pretty. Nars is written in black across the outer lid. To open the compact, lift up on the outer lid.  Then, to close the compact, pushdown on the lid until you hear a click telling you it is locked close.  On the inside, underneath the outer lid, is a generous, full -sized mirror. On the opposite side from the mirror, are the 16 eyeshadow pans, arranged in four rows of four shades, vertically and horizontally.  When you hear that powder is the type of eyeshadow formula, expect some fallout. The creamy mattes anchor the palette.  These shades are the neutrals that you’ll wear everyday.

The formula is versatile, you can use it wet or dry.  Use the shades as an eyeshadow, or an eyeliner.  Expect some fallout from the shades, (not too bad).  Some of the shades are more richly pigmented than others.  Therefore, the shades are buildable if you are trying for more intense shades. I found the shades to be buttery, and soft.  the matte shades felt like velvet, and are creamy.

Each row is designed to create a complete eye look.  That doesn’t mean you can’t use any of the shades to create a look.  You definitely should use all the shades.  That is what they are there for.  Mix and match all the shades to create your own looks.  The glitter shadows can be layered on top of any shade so your eyes catch the light.  Also, amongst the 16 shades are some favorites that you all have heard of.  Let’s start with Orgasm.  I really dislike typing the word because google reports me until I convince them that it the name of a most popular Nars shade.  Also Laguna and Taj Mahal are shadow fan favorite that you’ll find in this palette.  The other shades are complementary shades that come in matte neutrals, warm bronzes, and exoticpink tones.  One last tidbit of information, this 16 shade palette is the most amount of shades in a Nars Eyeshadow Palette, ever!
