Gucci Palette Beaute Des Yeux

Eye ShadowsEyesMakeup

Gucci just launched the Palette Beaute Des Yeux Eyeshadow Palette 01 Floral.  First, the Floral Eyeshadow Palette reflects the colors of the flora in various seasons.  Autumn reds and rich browns recall fall leaves that change colors and fall to the ground.  Then, the bright, bold shades reflect the shades of the flowers in the spring, and summer.  This is a high-end, luxury item, from a prestigious high-end luxury brand – hence the high price tag. I wouldn’t expect anything from Gucci!  So, what is the difference between a high-end Fashion House, like Gucci, eyeshadow palette and the masterful makeup artist palettes from world renowned artists like Pat McGrath and Natasha Denona?

First of all, the Gucci Palette Beaute Des Yeux is geared towards light and easy, wearable looks.  Natasha Denona and Pat McGrath are more about bolder looks.  Second, the pigment in the Gucci Palette can not compare to the intense pigments in the makeup artistry palettes.  You won’t find the big, complex looks in the Gucci Palette that you would find in a Pat McGrath or Natasha Denona Palette.  Even more, the makeup artistry palettes lean towards a one color idea.  The Gucci Palette Beaute Des Yeux is far from the complexity of the shades and their finishes, that ND and McGrath create.  The duochrome in the Gucci Palette is a big disappointment when pitted against the ND and PM’s  magnificent duochromes.  Therefore, if you want a fancy, curated, polished covetable collection, then go with Gucci.  You will find that it is not ramped up!  Instead, the shades are softer, and a lot less complex.

You can find the Gucci Palette Beaute Des Yeux at Sephora, Selfridges, Saks Fifth Avenue, and on the Gucci Website.  Also, the Gucci Palette 01 Floral ( 0.31 oz. / 9g) costs $149.

Packaging

One thing that stands out to me is the Gucci Palette Packaging.  The case comes in an elegant pink velvet sack. Also, the case, itself,  has a vintage feel.  The delicate floral design on the cover of the case looks hand painted.Although the case is actually plastic, it feels weighty, as if it were a metal case. Also, gold-toned trim surrounds the case.

What makes this packaging exceptional is the fact that the actual eyeshadow pan lifts out. You can either replace it with another pan with other colors( Gucci labeled this palette 01, which alludes to the fact that other palettes are on the way).  Or, You can take out the pan, and use the case to store trinkets, or jewelry. Whatever you do, the case will look stunning sitting on your vanity. Consider it a collector’s item! Inside, there is a beautiful, large mirror. And, on the other side of the mirror are 12 eyeshadow pans,  in two rows of six.  One other point, the pans are small compared to other expensive palettes.  Just Sayin’!

Formula

The eyeshadows feel soft and silky. For me, the shadows feel like velvet.   The formulas are light, but the shadows are buildable.  Also, you can layer or mix shadows. Even more, the shades are nicely pigmented.  Are they pigmented like Natasha or Pat McGrath Eyeshadows?  No. Again, this is not a makeup artist palette.  Instead, it is an elegant palette that has lovely eyeshadows.  There are 12 eyeshadows in the palette.  And, the 12 eyeshadows come in three finishes.   There are 3 metallic shades in the palette.  The metallic shades are silky-soft, and they offer a chrome-like finish that appears fabric-like!  The metallic shades brighten the eyes and create a radiant effect. The 2 satin shades have ultra-thin formulas that create a silky effect with a satin finish. Finally, there are 7 mattes, pigmented shades that glide on smoothly, and look flawless.

The Shades

01  Ancolie Noir, a dark dark blue/black shade, has a matte finish.  I love this shade as a liner, for the upper and lower lash lines.  Also, wear this shade in the outer corners of your eyes.  You can smoke it out.

02  Iris Amethyste, a purple shade, has a metallic finish.  This shade looks beautiful on the eyelid.  Also, you could war this shade in your crease.  It is multidimensional, with multi-colored reflects.

03  Gardenia Rose, a gold to pink shift shade,  has a metallic finish.  This is supposed to be a duochrome shade.  It does have an ever so slight shift from gold to pink.  The shade is one of the weaker shades in the palette, the color flip is weak.  I would wear this shade as a highlighter, underneath the brow bone.  Also, use this as a transition shade.

04  Anemone Orange, a rusty orange shade has a matte finish.  Wear this rusty matte shade on the outer corners of your eyes.  Another way to wear this is in your crease.  Also, line your lower lash lines with this shade.

05  Jasmine Blanc, an ivory white shade, has a matte finish.  Wear this white matte shade on the inner corners of your eyes.  Also, wear this shade as a highlighter on your brow bone.

06  Eurosa Douce, a light pink shade, has a matte finish.  Wear this light pink matte all over your eyes.

07  Aster Celeste, a light blue shade, has a matte finish.  Wear this shade all over your eyelids.

08  Armois Argente, a silver shade, has a metallic finish.  This is one of the more pungent shades. It feels very creamy.  Also, it has a high, reflective shine.  I would love this shade on the eyelids.  Also, you can wet your brush for even more high shine.

09  Orchis Chatain, a mid brown shade, has a matte finish.  Wear this shade as a base, across your eyelids.

10  Cedra Brown, a dark brown shade, has a matte finish.  Wear this on your upper and lower lash lines.  Also, wear this in your crease and on the outer corners of your eyes.

11  Passiflore Violace, a dark violet shade, has a satin finish.  Wear this shade to transition, and smooth the lines of other shadows.  Also, wear this in your crease.

12. Verveine Mauve, a light lavender shade, has a satin finish.  Wear this lavender shade in your crease, and on the upper and lower lash lines.

Finally, this is a great, beautiful, classy gift to give to someone who loves Gucci, or loves someone who just loves makeup.  The packaging makes this palette so giftable.  Who wouldn’t want a Gucci case sitting on their vanity.  Also, some of the shades, like the light blue, is something I wouldn’t think to wear.  However, this is the type of palette that gives you the opportunity to try out some new shades!
