Are you suffering from the summer heat? Have you faced those sweltering days where the temperature reaches over 100 degrees? Have you been suffering from the humidity that never seems to cease? Many of us have reached the temperature’s melting point in many ways.
One of them includes makeup!
Going barefaced, without any makeup, may not cut it for many of us! So, what do we do when we face makeup meltdown?
We melt-proof our makeup! Whether you choose to go shine-free or smudge proof, there are ways to give your makeup longevity, in spite of the heat . Here are some tips for saving your makeup from the heat!
Tip – use and alcohol-free toner to control oil
Tip – moisturize with a water-based moisturizer, and let the moisturizer absorb for 5-10 minutes before starting your makeup.
Tip – use a pea-sized blob of oil-free primer, dab it along the T-zone. Primer is like rubber cement because it seals off sweat and helps glue makeup to your face.
Tip – this tip may sound a little crazy, but it is tried and true and it really works. Milk of Magnesia has oil-blotting properties in it and it will create a smoother canvas for foundation application.
Tip – Using a Cosmetic Sponge, or Beauty Blender, put a small amount of MoM in the plastic cup that is provided, soak the sponge and dab all over your face and allow it to dry. It will leave a chalky residue that will disappear once you apply foundation.
Tip – Opt for an oil free foundation. Apply foundation in small criss-cross formations using a flat brush. The reason for this is that your makeup won’t look streaky in the heat. Use long-lasting foundations.
Tip – Stop eyelids from creasing. Use a dab of primer, or a swipe of foundation all along eyelid before applying eye shadow. It will act as a base between the skin and the shadow, giving the shadow something to hold on to.
Tip – Try long-wear cream shadow sticks
Tip – Use a Wax Brow Liner. Wax has a thicker consistency and is superior to powder in terms of staying power.
Tip – Use waterproof formulations for eye liner and mascara. The formulations are less likely to budge and streak. 24 Hour staying waterproof liners and mascaras have lower water content, so they are less likely to melt on sweltering days.
Tip – Ditch your powder blush and opt for a cream blush instead. Powders intensify on greasier skin and patchy blotches occur. Cream blush can be easily swept on with your finger. It looks more natural, it blends easily into warm skin for a sun-kissed, healthy look.
Tip – Embrace the Glow to make the most of the dewiness the heat will give your skin, add a dab of highlighter to the top of your cheekbones and next to the eye area so the shine is in all the right places!
Tip – Powder your lipstick to make any lipstick matte and longer lasting. Add a light dusting of translucent powder over top of lipstick and it will seal in the color by removing excess oils and keep lips from becoming tacky in the heat.
Tip – Use a Water-based Setting Spray. Setting Spray is hairspray for your face. It holds makeup in place because when it is sealed in , makeup won’t melt off. Some people actually prep with setting spray, and then they put their primer on. Whether you use setting spray before your primer to hold everything on, or after your makeup to seal it in, or both: mist your face from a 6 inch distance in a T formation, and then in an X formation for serious staying power!
Tip – Opt for matifying products to ensure makeup stays in place longer.
Tip – Apply all products in thin layer for best results.
Tip – Waterproof makeup is your friend!!!!!!!!!!
Tip – Waterproof blushers and bronzers are readily and easily available, as are lip stains, brow pencils, eye liners and mascara.
Tip – Remember, when the temperatures rise, switch as many makeup products in the summer to waterproof or oil-free as you can!
When the temperatures soar, you might feel all hot and sweaty, but your makeup will make you look like you are as cool as a cucumber! But just in case, carry translucent blotting paper with you in your handbag!
