Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmos Eyeshadow Palette

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Cosmos Eyeshadow Palette has 12 Galaxy-inspired shades.  Does the Galaxy makeup trend might sound intimidating to you?  Are you thinking that you won’t be able to pull this look off?  Never Say Never!  The truth is, Galaxy makeup has become one of the biggest makeup trends out there because everyone, even you, can branch out of your makeup comfort zone.  The reason is you don’t have to paint your face blue, with silver stars all over!  You don’t even need to wear blue lipstick!  In other words, you don’t have to get carried away by taking the look too far out of this world!  However, if you want to satisfy your “inner space girl”, you can create the look for Halloween!  Although, for most of us, we can still have some fun with this gorgeous palette.  All you need to do is add a little otherworldly shimmer to your everyday makeup looks.

You can find the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Cosmos Eyeshadow Palette at Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Beautylish, Bloomingdales, and on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Website.  The Cosmos Eyeshadow Palette ( 0.05oz./ 1.35g) costs $55.

The packaging is pretty basic.  The outer box is cardboard, and can be recycled.

Also, the actual compact is also made from cardboard, and can also be recycled.

I’d rather be able to recycle than have a fancy compact that can’t be recycled.  So, Kudos to Anastasia of Beverly Hills.  The outer box is pale blue with gold writing.  Also light blue, the compact has a magnetic closure. Inside, there is a mirror pasted to the underside of the lid.  The twelve shades are opposite the mirror, in two rows (left to right) with six shades each.

shade ingredients

The shades are very soft.  Therefore, if you order the palette online, you risk receiving broken shades in your palette.  This seems to be a problem with shipping, even when shipped in bubble paper.  You are better off going to a store to purchase the palette,  and bring  it home yourself.  In this way you can avoid the heartbreak of having your shades crushed or broken.  Also, once you get your palette, use light pressure with a brush or your fingertip, to pick up the eyeshadow.

Some of the duochromes( there are four of them) are more ethereal than intensely pigmented, although they are buildable if you want more color intensity. But, if you are worried about extreme looks, don’t be.  The duochrome ethereal look is sparkly, but understated enough to create daytime looks.  Also, the brand suggests you apply a duochrome shade over a black eyeliner shade, for a shifting look.

The matte shades (there are six of them) are buttery and soft.  You should apply them first, and then you can layer them with the metallics and duochromes to build dimension.

The metallics (there are two of them) can be used as highlighters for your face or body. Plus, if you want a more foiled effect, or a more intense finish, you can use setting spray on your brush to pick up the metallic shades.  Otherwise you should apply the metallics with your fingers, using a tapping motion.

The formula is Cruelty free.  Also it is free of Phthalates, Mineral Oil, Alcohol, Talc, Sulfate, Paraben and Oil.

The Shades

Top Row Left to Right

The shades are SuperCluster, Sun, Orion, Mercury, Quasar and Galaxy.

Super Cluster

SuperCluster, a bluish green shade with multidimensional sparkle, has a duochrome finish.  The Supercluster duochrome looks dark in the pan, but it is lighter, and more ethereal in the swatch.  Sun

Sun, a pink-bronze shade, has a duochrome finish. The Sun swatch is a beautiful duochrome that looks nothing like what it looks like in the pan.

Swatches left to right:m SuperCluster, Sun, Orion, Mercury, Quasar and Galaxy
Orion

Orion, an icy pink shade with gold sparkles, has a metallic finish.  You would never think this would be a beautiful icy pink shade by the looks of it in the pan.  However, the swatch tells a different story.

Mercury

Mercury, a titanium shade with sparkling reflects has a metallic finish.  Mercury is a really interesting shade that you won’t find easily if you were looking for it.  It is a beautiful metallic shade, unusual, and a lot more fun to use.

Swatches left to right:m SuperCluster, Sun, Orion, Mercury, Quasar and Galaxy
Quasar

Quasar, a green-gold shade with multidimensional sparkle, has a duochrome finish.  I was surprised each time I swatched one of the duochromes.  They are very deceiving in the pan, but gorgeous in the swatch.  Quasar is also very ethereal.

Galaxy

Galaxy, a deep blue shade with blue-green sparkle, has a matte finish.  Galaxy is true to the color in the pan.  I love the blue green sparkles, that seem to twinkle like the stars twinkle in a galaxy of stars.

Bottom Row Left to Right

Space Dust, Comet, Eclipse, Supernova, Mars, Dark Matter

Space Dust

Space Dust, a sandstone shade, has a matte finish.  You can apply Space Dust first, and use a metallic or a duochrome shade on top to create dimension.  The shade is actually very light and would make a good transitional shade.

Comet

Comet, a toasted peach shade, has a matte finish.  Comet  is a shade that I would wear as a crease shade, and in the outer corners of my eyes to add soft dimension.

Swatches left to right-Space Dust, Comet, Eclipse, Supernova, Mars and Dark Matter
Eclipse

Eclipse, a muted plum shade, has a matte finish.  Eclipse is deeper, and looks more like a dirty plum shade, which would look great to add definition to your eyes, in the crease, outer corners, and is deep enough to use as a liner to line your upper and lower lash lines.

SuperNova
Swatches left to right-Space Dust, Comet, Eclipse, Supernova, Mars and Dark Matter

SuperNova, a pink-lilac shade with multidimensional sparkle, has a duochrome finish.  This pink-lilac shade really pops.  SuperNova will look amazing all over your eyelids, or wear it in the center of your eyelids to make your eyes pop.

Mars

Mars, a rusty brown shade, has a matte finish. I would use Mars to add definition to the crease of my eyes.  Also, wear it to line your lower lash line.

Dark Matter

Dark Matter, a black violet shade, has a matte finish.  I wore this shade as an eyeliner, on both the top and lower lashline.  It looked amazing, and I received a lot of compliments.  I loved the fact that this wasn’t just another black liner, it has a little umph with the violetness, so it had a little more interest than just another black liner.  It looked really amazing, but it was not over the top.

Finally, I was really excited to receive the Cosmos Eyeshadow Palette.  I am a sucker for the Cosmos shades and sparkles!  My palette arrived unbroken, and is still perfect.  I think the twelve shades are stunning.  The range of shades is perfect, neutrals, to duochromes, mattes, and metallics.  All the shades you will need to create perfect daytime looks, and sensational, festive night looks.  And, if you have, or are invited to a Halloween party in the fall, the choices are endless! Another reason I love this palette is, it is seasonless.  You can wear it now, and keep wearing it all fall and winter.
