When 2015 was over, so was the “year of the contour.”. The new year brought with it the newest trend. It’s now the “year of the glow,” 2016. This year we gave up sculpting; carving our faces with bronzers , dark-shaded creams and powders. These products from yesteryear go back into our drawers. But wait ladies, don’t throw your highlighters in the drawers cause your gonna need them!
There are many ways to achieve that special glow we are craving. One way is to create a healthy glow with specific skin care. Another way to glow is to use specific products that, when applied to the skin, create glowing skin. We discuss these methods in a future blog. Today we want to teach you a technique called STROBING. And, we found the newest YSL Touche Eclat “Strobing Light” Mega Highlighter that creates the perfect strobe.($42) @ Sephora, Nordstrom’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bloomingdales
Strobing sounds complicated, doesn’t it? Actually, the strobing technique is rather simple. Strobing is when we accentuate the areas of our face where natural light hits. Strobing is done using a shimmering highlighter. It is “highlighting your face to the max” without contouring. The trick is this: only apply the highlighter to the high planes of your face: the center of your forehead, your brow bone, above the arch of your eyebrows, down the center of your nose to the tip, the tops of your cheek bones, and your cupid’s bow.
MORE SPECIFIC STROBING INSTRUCTIONS AS FOLLOWS:
Step 1 : Moisturize you face and neck, and apply primer
Step 2: Apply your foundation, and blend well
Step 3: Apply a dewy under eye concealer, make sure it is dewy and 2 shades lighter than your skin tone, to all of the areas of your face where the light hits. (where you are going to strobe)
Step 4: Finish your base with a pressed powder, lightly applied throughout the center of your face, under your eyes, blending down and outward
Step 5: Time to Get Your Glow On! Go Ahead and Strobe Away with your Mega Highlighter!
Step 6: Go ahead, put on some blush!
Step 7: Your Finished, you can always spray with a setting spray if you so desire
So, How do you like your new strobe look?
YSL has done it again with the newest addition to their infamous Touch Eclat products, the Strobing Light Mega Highlighter. We couldn’t miss the gold wand that was right next to the other Touch Eclat samples, but this one was twinkling, and at that moment, it out shined everything else in the whole store. We didn’t even know what it was, yet it’s twinkling called out to us, and we ran over to it! We knew we were not leaving without it! We had to have it ‘RIGHT NOW!’ (We refer to this feeling as immediate makeup gratification.) Has that ever happened to you? We knew that whatever was inside that glittering gold wand, it had to be good. It was YSL, a Touch Eclat product, so of course it was going to be good. And, we are happy to tell you, it is GREAT!
The wand, or “pen” is comfortable to hold. You take the lid off, click the black button on the bottom of the “pen”, and keep clicking until you see the liquid come through onto the applicator brush, and keep clicking until you have your desired amount. Then paint (strobe) your cheekbones, the center of your nose, your cupid’s bow, and any other high plane on your face making sure there is enough of the product on the brush, and keep clicking when you need more on the brush.
You feel like you are applying silk to your face with this formula. Spread it on lightly with your fingers. Easy isn’t it? The effect is, you have a gorgeous champagne colored twinkling glow on the high planes of your face. The twinkle is subdued, yet you’ve definitely got” your glow on!”
