The new Anastasia Subculture Eyeshadow Palette has been surrounded with a lot of drama since it’s release. This is do to the new, highly pigmented formula. The complaints are that the colors are difficult to pick up from the pan, go on patchy, and do not blend easily. There is definite fallout from the shadows as well. This all may sound like the Anastasia Subculture Eyeshadow Palette is a bust. However, many who own the Anastasia Subculture Eyeshadow Palette have had a very different experience, and love the highly pigmented shadows, feel they are easy to blend, and claim it is the best palette ever. Also, most would agree with me that Subculture is a unique, wearable palette with unconventional shades (grungy), and the colors of these shadows are gorgeous. So , why are there such opposing views?
There are 11 ultra matte eyeshadows, and three metallic shimmer shades in the palette.
The Anastasia Subculture Eyeshadow Palette also comes with a mirror inside the palette, and a dual sided , soft bristle eyeshadow brush. To purchase Subculture, click here ($42).

Anastasia Subculture Eyeshadow Palette contains a highly pigmented formula that doesn’t need a lot of pressure to pick up the eyeshadow from the pan, nor does it need a lot of pressure for the application of the shadows. You need to use a light pressure to pick up the eyeshadows, which avoids digging into the shadows, and like some complained, hitting the pan. Furthermore, Anastasia Beverly Hills has some important tips for using this new formula.

Use short bristled dense brushes to deposit the shadow on the eyelids. Use your fluffy brush to blend the edges.
Don’t use a large fluffy brush to pick up the eyeshadows because the size of the brush, and the bristle length will only move the powder around. It won’t pick up shadows that will consistently cover the brush, which is what you need for a clean application. Only use the fluffy brush for seamless blending.
For maximum payoff and blendability, ABH doesn’t recommend using cram or emollient based primer, or concealers that don’t set themselves. Emollient primers will grab matte shadows and prevent seamless blending.
If you use a concealer as a primer, wait until the concealer dries, then set it with powder before you apply the shadows.
Patting or packing color on works the best, and this can also be done over blended shadows for higher intensity.
I know it’s not what you’re used to. It is a different approach to applying eyeshadows. But, the positive reviews followed ABH tips, and learned to work with the shadows. If you are obsessed with the eyeshadow shades in the Anastasia Subculture Eyeshadow Palette, and you have some experience playing with eyeshadow in general, then you’ll love Subculture. If you are a makeup beginner, then FORGET ABOUT IT! Why? Because you need to work with Subculture to “make it happen!”
