This Artist Brush is One of a Kind!  I have never seen anything (makeup brushes) quite like it.  I have an enormous makeup brush collection, and not one of my brushes comes close to Wayne Goss’s new, and very limited edition Wayne Goss The Artist Brush ($150).  Beautylish ( who has the exclusive on Wayne Goss Brushes) released the brush on Christmas, and it is already sold out!  I am so happy I was able to grab one!

The brush was “inspired by Japanese calligraphy and hand crafted by world renown brush makers from Kumano, Japan.  Wayne’s anniversary brush collection, and his other brushes are also made in Kumano, Japan . The brush is pure luxury, it made with quality “ingredients” , it is hand crafted, and it is (like all of Wayne’s brushes) extremely well constructed.  It is meant to “deposit a soft halo of color” because the Bristles “spread out when pressed against the face.”

My brush arrived by Fed Ex, and it was wrapped in black tissue.  There was so much tissue wrapped around the brush, you would think they were sending me a rare piece of Baccarat crystal .   Or they sent me a raw egg which they were protecting so it would not crack!  I knew right away they were  trying convey the message that this was a rare , priceless, collector’s item.  Why else would it be so wrapped up and so painstakingly protected ?  It is still an unbreakable makeup brush!

The brush was packaged  inside a rectangular wooden box,. The brush was  on a bed of burgundy velvet, held in place with two elastic gold rings.  I call that an elegant presentation.

The handle of the brush is supersized, it’s really long!  It is carved, by hand, out of maple wood.  At the end of the handle there is a brown string in a loop-clever idea so the brush could be hung with the brush pointing down, which is the proper way to dry your brushes.

The brush is made from a mixture of gray squirrel, and Sokoho goat hair.  The brush is supersized too – so the brush/handle are in proportion.  The brush head is 55mm in length, 33mm in width and depth at it’s fullest point.

The brush tapers to a curved (half moon) end.  From the tip of the brush to the tip of the handle, the brush measures 9.85 inches (25,00 cm).  That’s a big brush!

The bristles shouldn’t even be called bristles, because that makes them sound rough.  The brush hairs are super soft.  They feel like silky, conditioned human hair.

The Artist Brush is supposed to “bring out your inner artist.” Even thought everything on the brush is supersized, the brush is still lightweight and easy to use.  You aren’t going to do any intricate detail brushing with this brush. Because the bristles are so soft, you will not receive the impact of color that you would with a Kabuki brush, or a synthetic brush.  What you will get is a soft “halo” of color – when the bristles are spread out and pressed against your face.

This is a great brush for applying bronzer, highlighter, blush anywhere you need soft color.  You can use sweeping motions (back and forth)  or swirling motions.  Either way, I hope you feel like an artist!  Go on waitlist at Beautylish and keep your fingers crossed that they will get more brushes!

What do you think about spending $150.00 on a supersized, handmade, hand-carved, collectors  item made with squirrel hair and goat hair, and designed by Wayne Goss? Leave your comments in the comment section below. I had to have one because Wayne consistently  puts out  incredibly well made brushes- and, well…I’m a collector!

You are Awesome!
