One integral part of Korean Beauty, or K-beauty as it is referred to in the makeup world, is all about customization , meaning  K-beauty uses masks in their skin care ritual that target specific, individual  skin concerns.

maxresdefaultYou can think of multi-masking as Boot Camp for the Skin.  It solves the particular problems your skin has before a big event.  Now that we are in “wedding season” you could describe it as Bridal Boot Camp for the skin – that is, if you are a bride, or a soon to be bride!!!!We’ll definitely do some multimasking on our bride, and her bridesmaids before the big day!  Heck, I’m going to do some multimasking on myself for the big day!

What is so great about masks these days?  Masks can be loaded , packed and saturated with many great ingredients that cocoon your skin, (cook the ingredients into your skin.)   This is a super-effective treatment for your specific skin needs/problems.

Unless a mask has acid ingredients in it, such as glycolic acid, or salicylic acid, which may cause skin sensitivity, you can use the mask once or twice a day.  Masks, according to the Korean Beauty method, should be used daily because they are packed with potent and good-for-your-skin ingredients.  The advice given by Korean Skin Care Experts is, you are supposed to ignore the directions that say to use the mask two times a week.  They insist that the masks should be used two times a day!  Why?  Because , according to K-Beauty, it is worth it to use them two times a day!  That is the only way you are going to see real results!

There are many different masks that each target a specific issue that pertains  to a person’s individual concerns.  Masks can be specifically targeted for luminizing, calming, or brightening the skin.

Masks used for multi – masking while targeting specific problems  include :

Masks For Targeting Breakouts – at any age, breakouts are the worst concern!  First, you would use a purifying  clay mask to detox the skin and help with the breakouts.  The next issue you need to target is moisture, your skin needs moisture so it doesn’t become irritated.  Think Hydration, Hydration, Hydration!!!  K-beauty experts recommend sticking to a sheet mask made from hydro-gel material.  They are %100 soluble and they provide more moisture because they have already been soaked in serums that plump and soften the skin.  When you remove the mask, don’t wipe off the excess product for even more results.

Masks That Target Oily Skin –  Oily skin needs hydration!  Why do you think?  Because drying out oily skin can cause it to rebel, and when it rebels, it creates more oil.  You will need a deep cleansing mask to detoxify and unclog pores.  Afterwards, apply a sheet mask to soothe and hydrate your skin.

Masks For Targeting Dull Skin Concerns – The newest masks on the market are called Splash Masks.  This new Korean Trend is to splash the mask onto your face while you are in the shower.  This mask , when splashed onto the face in the morning, will exfoliate and hydrate your skin. In the evening, apply a sheet mask, for relaxing or apply a mask, pre-makeup,  if you are going to an event.

Masks for Targeting Large Pores -Masks that include charcoal, spearmint extract and rose helps to minimize large pores.  Then there are Bouncy Masks that plum the skin by supporting collagen production, which makes large pores appear smaller.  Before you go to sleep, use a Pore-Tightening Mask.  Afterwards, apply a moisturizer to get radiant, luminous skin.

Masks For Targeting Wrinkles – To target wrinkles, it is important to topically hydrate the skin, to plump it to reduce visible lines.  For this you need to choose a firming, plumping hydrating mask.  then you need to follow this with a super hydrating mask to make your skin look dewy and fresh.

There are new masks called “Sleeping Masks” that you put on , and then go to sleep. The theory here is that masks are more effective while you are sleeping, because the human body is in an optimal  (prime time) state, so it absorbs the products, which makes the product more effective. According to the experts, the goal at night is to repair the damage from the days pollution, sun, stress, and to hydrate your skin because you lose more water when you are asleep.  When you wake up your skin will be hydrated, supple, and dewy, the perfect way to start your day!

Since South Korea is the skin-care capital of the world, we in the west are beginning to learn the rituals that are involved in their lengthy skin regime.  Their skin is gorgeous, it always looks hydrated, dewy and it has a certain glow.  They are the best teachers to instruct us on new ways to keep our skin soft, supple, and looking great at any age!  Their masks are the soul of their skin care ritual. What makes their masks special ? they are created as individual treatments that specifically target  one skin concern at a time, and if there are more concerns, they use a specific mask to deal with each individual concern.  We, in the west, do the opposite.  We use one product that addresses many concerns, whether we have those concerns or not.  When you think about it, it just doesn’t make much sense! Maybe it is time we learn the K-Beauty rituals, including #double- fisting #multimasking!  What do you think?
