Tom Ford is an artist who wears many hats. He is an American Fashion Designer, a Film Director, a Screenwriter and a Film Producer. He recently directed his second movie, “Nocturnal Animals”, a story within a story, that was very intense. It was brilliant and I really enjoy it!!! His makeup “designs” are based on his architectural design background, where his interests lie predominately with illuminating and shading the face in order to create a sculpted look. Enter his newest Cheek Palette, the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Cheeks Limited Edition in Scintillate and Sublimate ($80). Each palette features two coordinating shades, a lighter shade, a cream highlighter, and a darker shade, a cream blush/contour.
The formula is very emollient, which allows the shades to blend seamlessly and effortlessly in order to create dimension for the face. Light and dark hues shade the face, and give it a flush of color.
The texture of the shades are extremely slippery and balm-like, so don’t get too excited for any major color. Both shades are super sheer. The highlighters are barely there. You really need to layer these shades, and it is still impossible to over do it. These translucent colors have an even application, however, I have really dry skin, and the shades never set on my face. Therefore, my wear-time was really short. These shades were intended to create dimension, and this they do. The highlighter shade has an ever so slight pearlescence which will attract light to the skin , amplify the cheekbones and lift the face. The sheer blush/contour tone deepens and defines the face, and adds a slight flush to the cheeks.
Scintillate , the Peach toned blush, has a warm beige highlighter.
The warm beige highlighter has a slight pearlescence
The shades are so sheer, you might consider using them to shade the face, and as a base for other colors to go on top.
Sublimate has a cool pink (dusty rose) highlighter, and a plum/berry blush/contour shade.
If you love a highlighter that looks like a highlighter, forget about these palettes. The design of these highlighters is purely to reflect as much light as possible. The blush is designed to chisel the face in a natural, flattering way-nothing more, nothing less. If you want the palettes for the job they were designed to perform,to deepen and define in order to sculpt the face and give it a flush, then this is a totally awesome palette!
You Are Awesome!
