Cushion Compacts are a Korean invention that eventually made their way to the western world. Now, a lot of brands from the western world have dived in and began to create their own cushions. So, the original inventors, Korean brands, began to step up their game, and create second and third generation cushion compacts that outperform their originals, and the western immitations.
Korean Brand Sulwhasoo is a high-end luxury brand that is based on scientific. luxury. medicinal skincare that uses all natural ingredients native to Korea and harvested in Korea from Amore Pacific (the mother company) herb farms.
The Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion was the original, first generation cushion, and then came the second generation cushion, the Sulwhasoo Perfecting Brightening Cushion. These have led to their newest, the third generation cushion, which is the most advanced, The Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense Foundation with an SPF 50+ ($80). It is a moisturizing, nourishing and anti-aging foundation cushion. It also has a high SPF 50+ sun protection built into the cushion’s formula.
The price may seem steep, but you do get a full-sized refill with the compact, so it is like buying two cushions.
It comes in seven shades, some with pink undertones, no. 11 pale pink, no. 13 light pink no. 17, no. 21 medium pink, and some with yellow undertones, no. no. 17 light beige, no. 23 medium beige, no. 25 deep beige, and no, 33 dark beige.
I get quite a profuse, luxuriant feeling every time I use the compact. The Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense Foundation comes in a luxurious gold and bronzed-gold compact. It even looks expensive! When opened, it has a mirror on the underside of the cover, and an airlock tray/sponge-holder on the bottom side of the compact.
When lifting the sponge-holder, underneath is a gold-leaf embossed foil that keeps the cushion sterile prior to using the cushion.
The cushion is formulated with Red Pine Extracts that deliver both radiance and resilience to the skin. This is definitely the hero ingredient in the cushion. It also boosts firmness and density, and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The formula also includes Plum Blossom, which is the antioxidant rich factor that brings clarity to the skin, and Radiance Pearl Powder Complex provides unsurpassed radiance to the skin.
The result is silky, seamless perfected skin with a healthy natural looking glow.
I purchased no. 23, medium beige.
It was the perfect shade for me until I caught a bit of a tan in South Carolina, at a wedding. Now I want to purchase the next shade, no. 25 Deep Beige, because it will be perfect for the summer months. I suggest you hydrate and moisturize your skin before applying the cushion foundation. I always start in the middle of my face and smooth the foundation outwards, using the included sponge applicator. This applicator sponge seemed a little stiffer than other applicator sponges, it had less pores in it. It turns out it is a good thing, because it acts more like a silicone applicator, that you need only a little product, because you are not wasting product that the sponge absorbs. plus it creates a smooth finish ( so does the silicone applicator). It subtlety reflects light for an inconspicuous luminosity and a youthful look. It is definitely more matte that it’s predecessors. If you love a dewier look, go with one of the other two compacts.
I love that the cushion is portable. You can easily touch up during the day, which is a great way to spruce up foundation, while adding anti-aging products along with your strong sun screen.
