Smashbox Studio inspired many of the trends in the new Smashbox Cover Shot ; Eye Shadow Palettes Collection($29). 7 high-impact palettes are in the collection. Each palette is curated mix of 6 eye shadow colors that are highly pigmented , and 2 double sized eye shadow bases.
It is amazing that all these shades fit into a palette the size of a credit card! These mini-palettes are slim, portable palettes that can fit into your jeans pocket!
The shades in the palettes are velvety and fierce. Each of the 7 Palettes represents a different eyeshadow trend. The seven palettes are:
Metallic – a palette with a fierce foil finish.
Matte – high coverage and velvety matte shades.
Golden Hour – a creamy look that occurs at the twilight hour, when the lighting makes everyone look “lit from within”.
Softlight – soft-focus wearable shimmers
Smoky -an effortless, modern look
Bold – transformative and electrifying shades
Ablaze – hot, inspired shades from the desert
The packaging is sturdy. There is a mirror on one side of the palette. The other side is two double-sized base colors and six curated eyeshadows. Each palette has a two-dimensional image on the cover. The palettes are the size of a credit card.
I purchased two palettes, Ablaze and Golden Hour, because I love the shades of the shadows in both of these palettes.
Ablaze has trending shades that are warm toned and sun-drenched terracotta and bronze with warm red undertones that capture the warmth of the desert.
The double sized base-shades are:
Relaxed – a matte soft beige-peach
Moccasin – a frosted peach shade
The six eye shadow shades are :
Siesta – soft rose-gold shimmer with a light gold shift
Nirvana – a matte pinkish-berry shade
Delirious – medium-dark, orange flamed shimmer
Throwback – a matte terracotta brown with warm red undertones
Dark Horse – a deep brown matte with warm undertones
The formula in Ablaze is smooth, pigmented with good color payoff, and the colors blend well together. The shadows kick up some powder in the pan. The shimmers are extremely buttery and smooth. The mattes are more inconsistent. Relaxed and Dark Horse are soft and smooth. They blend well. Nirvana and Throwback are highly pigmented, a little dry, and the pigments are a bit sheer, but do build easily. The pigment is rich, the colors’ appearance in the pan is the exact same when applied to the eyes.
Golden Hour has creamy, golden, lit from within shades that mimic the twilight hour when the lighting makes everyone look their best.
The double sized base shades are :
Dope – a light-medium peach with warm, yellow undertones with a matte finish
Hero – a light yellow beige with a matte finish
The six eye shadow shades are:
Lights – light-medium gold with warm yellow-gold undertones
Hotline – soft medium-dark coppery brown with warm undertones and a soft frosted finish
Turned On – a soft-light medium coral-pink with a frosted gold shimmer.
Psyched – a medium-dark reddish-brown with warm undertones and a sparkling frosted finish
Rock Stars – a deep plum with warmer undertones and a pearl sheen
Stare – a medium-dark brown with golden undertones and a pearl finish
The shades blend well together. The shadows feel soft to the touch. Some of the shades kicked up powder. I think wearing a primer would help a lot with the shadows.
The mini size of these palettes make them easy to hold in the palm of your hand. They are great for travel, they do not take up any space. Even though they are tiny, I still could use my regular-sized eye shadow brushes to apply the shadows, and the pigments were easily picked up. Incredibly, these tiny palettes pack as much in them as do the larger palettes. They pack as much punch, and can compete with the mama sized palettes . What I love about these mini palettes is their price, $29 is such a great buy, so good that you could pick up a few of the palettes if you want. I definitely plan to grab a few more! I love the sturdy, adorable packaging, the palette also includes a mirror. I love that the palettes have different textures and a fantastic lineup of curated colors. I always use a primer primer, so I had no creasing. The colors never got muddy-looking. Most shades have a smooth texture, and rich pigments. I also love the variety of looks that are possible with each palette, from office, and day time neutrals, to sultry night time looks.
You Are Awesome!
