It’s a New Year. Once again, Pantone Institute has chosen our New Color for 2018. Let me introduce you to Ultra Violet, 2018 Color Of The Year!
Why Pantone Institute Chose Ultra Violet For 2018
Color Inspires The World’s Trends
Our Culture is fascinated with color. Furthermore, we have learned that color can communicate messages and meanings. Therefore, designers and brands use color to inspire and influence us. Hence, the color of the year is a “moment in time that provides inspiration and direction for the world’s trends and designs
About The Pantone Color Institute
Pantone Color Institute is known all over the world as the leading source of color information. Moreover, the Institute works to give brands information that includes forecasting the success of seasonal shades. Furthermore, Pantone helps brands develop and create custom colors. Most important, they recommend color palettes for products and corporations.
Pantone is successful because they partner with global brands so that the brands will have “the leverage of power, psychology and emotion of color in their designs.”
Ultra Violet For 2018
Pantone describes the color of the year for 2018 as being original. Also, Pantone shade 18-3838 conveys ingenuity and visionary thinking.
Pantone visionaries see Ultra Violet as evoking the mysteries of the cosmos. In truth, the shade represents the vast limitless night sky. Furthermore, the color represents the “intrigue of future discoveries that will go beyond where we are now”. Most important, Ultra Violet is a symbol of what is possible. Therefore, it gives us the inspiration to “pursue a world beyond our own”.
Equally important, purple symbolizes the mysteries of counter-culture brilliance. For example, prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought Ultra Violet shades to the forefront of Western Pop Culture as “personal expressions of individuality.”
Therefore, Ultra Violet is a symbol of experimentation and non-conformity. These characteristics spur individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world by pushing boundaries through creative outlets.
Last, the shade is magical and mystical . It further represents Mindfulness, the act of paying attention, and staying in the moment, while remaining non- judgmental.
How To Use Ultra Violet
Pantone created eight color palettes featuring Ultra Violet to help bring the shade into your designs. These 8 color stories will help us to cross over fashion, accessories, beauty , home interiors, and graphic designs. Also, within each of the 8 palettes are three color harmonies. They give examples of how the individual colors in each of the palettes can be mixed together.

I am loving the 2018 Color of the Year. I predict it will be an exciting year for fashion. Also, I love that the makeup brands are beginning to introduce the shade. I am excited to see another color besides neutral shades. Purple has always represented Royalty. Now that Meghan Markle is marrying Prince Harry, she proves that anyone can be a royal. When we wear purple, sit in a purple chair, paint a room purple, stir a recipe with a purple spoon, and wear purple makeup, we all can feel a little royal! The choices are endless.
