Before the fall colors hit the shelves, we can look forward to the end of summer foundation launches. First, I could hardly wait for the new, Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm, to arrive! I liked the notion that this wasn’t going to be the same old liquid, powder, stick or gel foundation. Also, I had never tried a foundation balm before. So, that was really exciting to try something new. What do you think of when you think foundation “balm”? First, I think the balm foundation’s formula will glide, slippery, onto the face. In addition, I think it should have a dewy finish. However, the big surprise is The Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm has a powdery, matte finish! Therefore, instead of making you glow, it evens out your complexion! And, it gives you great, buildable coverage. Finally, do you want to look airbrushed ? If so, give the
foundation balm a try.
Furthermore, you can find the Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm at Sephora, Bergdorf Goodman and the Kevyn Aucoin Website. Also the foundation comes with a brush. The cost is $52.
Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm Packaging
To begin with, the outer box of the foundation balm is Kevyn Aucoin’s signature plum shade.
Next, the foundation comes in a frosted, plastic jar, with a screw on top.
The application brush, included with the foundation, is a quality brush. I wouldn’t expect anything less from K.A.
To describe, the brush is a sturdy, mini buffing brush. Also, it has dense bristles. One thing for sure, this is a great foundation for travel. The reason is, the foundation is solid. Therefore, you won’t have to worry about your liquid foundation running all over everything!
Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm Formula
The formula includes Hyaluronic Acid that hydrates your skin. Also included, Antioxidant Vitamin E, protects and conditions your skin. Finally, included, Avocado Oil ,supports the barrier of the skin. And, the Avocado Oil also protects your skin from free-radical, external damage.
Moreover, the formula gives you buildable coverage. Therefore, you can wear it sheered out, or build it up for full coverage. In addition, the texture feels like a silky balm. Your skin will feell hydrated and balanced. The formula feels comfortable and weightless on your skin.
You won’t need a finishing powder because the formula dries down to a powdery finish.
And, you won’t need excessive blending. First, the mini buffing brush specifically designed for this formula. In other words, the formula, and the brush, go hand in hand. You don’t need a lot of product. A little goes a long way!
Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm Shades
I love that the Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm comes in an extensive range of 20 shades. There are 7 light shades, that go from the fairest of the fair to light. Next, there are 8 medium shades. These shades go from medium light to medium tan. And, there are five deep shades. These shades range from dark to deep.
Because I ordered my shades online, I ordered two medium shades. Medium FB06, and Medium FB09. So, medium FB06 is too light for me now. However, in the dead of winter, it will be the perfect shade!
Also, Medium FB09 is more of a medium to medium tan shade. Right now, with a tan, this is my perfect shade. However, by the fall, I will probably need the Medium FB07! I have medium skin with neutral undertones. I tan easily. Even with sunscreen, I still tan. And, I sit under an umbrella on the beach! So, go figure?
My Final Thoughts on Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm
Finally, if you want a smooth, even-toned, canvas that also pampers your skin with moisture, and fights free-radical damage, then the Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Balm is a great choice. Would I wear this every day? Yes, I would wear it everyday in the fall, and winter. The reason is, I need more coverage during the colder months. In the summer, I like a dewy, glowing look. Therefore, unless I am walking my son down the aisle, in September, I wouldn’t wear the foundation balm! I was a little disappointed that “balm” did not translate to dewy, glowing, slippery skin. Plus, I am not thrilled with a powdery finish this time of year. Also, I am not thrilled with a matte finish! Instead, I like a more radiant look. That is what I thought I was getting with a “balm” foundation. NOT!
On the other hand, I know the balm foundation will come in handy sometime down the road. Maybe for my son’s wedding? No, the wedding is on the beach. Therefore, I’d much prefer a glow. Maybe I can try using the Kevyn Aucoin Glass Glow Face underneath the foundation, or on top of the foundation. We’ll see how it goes!
One more thing, if you have dry skin, like me, you must wear a lot of moisturizer before applying the foundation balm. It is a dryer formula, that is no where near what you’d expect from a balm!
I’d love to hear what you think of the new foundation balm. Please let me know what you think in the comments below!
