Fukubukuro is a Japanese word, “Fuku” means good fortune and “Bukuro” means bag.  Fukubukuro means “Lucky Bag”.  Lucky-bags-2017-in-japan

The Japanese have a tradition, reminiscent of our “Black Friday”in the US, that during the week of New Years, sealed shopping bags are sold at a fixed price.  These bags are Fukubukuros, “Lucky Bags”.  The bags contain clothing, or electronics, food, or cosmetics, etc.  But there is a catch!  The customer doesn’t know what is in the bag when they purchase it.  It is this hit or miss aspect, the unknown, that makes the Fukubukuros fun and exciting.  Luckybags-2017-Japanese-Lucky-Bags-products-are-unkown

Lucky bags go on sale for one week in Japan, beginning January 1st.  Big brands such as Apple, Hello Kitty, and Revlon, and even Starbucks participate with their own Lucky Bags.Luckybags-2017-japan-makeup-cosmetics-surpsrise-grab-bags

It becomes Black Fridayish in the way the Japanese pursue  certain bags.  Just like the Black Friday sales, the day after Thanksgiving, there is a buying frenzy.  Crowds of excited shoppers hustle, and bustle, shoving people in ridiculous crowds.  Sounds familiar?  They line up at stores the evening before the 1st so they can be first in the stores.  The only thing is, they have no idea what they are purchasing!

In the US, Beautylish has joined the Lucky Bag craze, so people all over the world can participate in the Lucky Bag craze.

Beautylish features two lucky bags.  The standard bag is $75 dollars, and it guarantees your products will be worth at least double ($150) what you paid for the bag, and if you are lucky, it will be worth even more.

The XL Lucky Bag at Beautylish costs ($150), and the value of the products in the bag are worth at least $300, and could be worth even more depending on how lucky you are.  I was Lucky Enough to purchase the XL Lucky Bag from Beautylish 2017.  It arrived in January, but I saved the box until I could do a video of the “unboxing” so that everything would be a surprise.  Also, this is my first Lucky Bag, and this year was the first time I’ve ever heard about the phenomenon.

Each individual item is wrapped in black tissue paper.  I was really excited about the mysterious products that would be in my box.

First, I unwrapped RCMA No Color Powder.  I have used this Cult Classic Invisible Setting Powder.  It is famous with the Pros for setting makeup and blurring fine lines and pores.  It comes in three sizes.  I received the 30z. size that sells for $12.  I’ve written about RCMA No Color Powder, if you want to read more about this fantastic powder (Click Here).

Included in the box is a Luxurious Powder Brush.  I can’t find the price on this particular brush, but knowing Beautylish, it is a quality brush.

Bioderma Sensibo H2O is the French Cult Classic no rinse micellar water and makeup remover.  It gently removes makeup , even if it is waterproof.  It also removes dirt and debris from the skin without stripping it.  The formula is soothing and hypoalergenic.  It comes in five sizes. I received the 100 mg which retails for $6.90.  For more information about micellar water (Click Here).

Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray Spray 2.1 fl oz ($22) is a moisturizing hair spray that uses rich extracts and exotic oils to repair hair and give it texture.  You can get that “I’ve been on the beach all day, or I just woke up and have bed head” looks.  It also makes your hair voluminous and very shiny.

The Charlotte Tilbury makeup bag ($20) has a n adorable lip design on canvas, and the lips are the real lips of all of Charlotte’s Star Muses!  For me the bag is great for travel.  It holds a good amount of products, and even some full-sized brushes.

The Jouer Cosmetics Long Wear Lip Cream ($18) is a weightless, pigmented liquid lipstick.  It gives, smooth, full coverage , is long wearing, and not too drying for a liquid lipstick.

The big ta-da! gift is the Natasha Denona eye shadow palette #28 in Green Brown.

It has 28 pans of ultra pigmented, creamy eye shadows in several formulas, shimmers, matte and glitter.  It retails for $239.  It is a real winner, and I already own this palette, and the other palette in the collection.  For more about these palettes (click here).

So, I paid $150 , and not including the brush( b/c I couldn’t find a price) my bag came to $355.90 – and we know the brush was most likely expensive.  I think I did really well with my first Lucky Bag!  Now, let’s say we don’t like some or all of the products in our bag, what do we do?  Trade.  The Japanese go outside, and begin trading their items with each other, which adds more fun to the entire experience, and you will most likely trade for something you would like.  What do we do if we don’t like something?  We Trade with other Lucky Bag Receivers, but we trade ON LINE!  So, we can continue to have some fun and get something we may be happier with.

Bobbie Jean and I, and Sylvie too, had fun with our Lucky Bag.  If you received one, tell us what you thought of your bag.  Did You Trade for something else?  Would you get one next January?
