The Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Palette Vol.1 ($64.90) is as exciting as it is beautiful. Her concept is so new and innovative, “Paint Your Own Pout!” This palette is a far cry from every body else’s same-old, same-old liquid lipsticks. Haven’t you all had enough of the liquid lipstick trend?
What makes this palette so appealing is it has a color range that includes… everything you can imagine, whether you use the 13 essential shades Anastasia has already provided ( and they are gorgeous), or you mix the essential shades -with each other and/or the 5 primary shades, to create an infinite number of custom colors.
There are 18 wells of color, and 0.8 grams of product in the wells of the palette. The top two rows, and the last shade on the third row, are the thirteen essential lipsticks. The first five on row three are the primary shades, which are primarily for mixing with the essential shades.
The clear, plastic lid has numbers on it that correspond to the colors underneath them, when the lid is closed. The colors are not named, they are numbered. This makes it easier to make and share different color formulas.

These are intense pigments, and the ingredients vary with each shade.
Each color looks exactlythe same in the well, or on the lips, and this is achieved with only one swipe. The formula feels creamy, and blends and mixes well. All of the colors ,in the palette, are matte. They feel great on the lips, weightless and super creamy. The formula is long-lasting, even though the exact length of stay- time of each color varies. The colors are formulated to mix, layer and create customized shades.

Also included is a double sided tool.
On one side of the tool is a flat lipstick brush, to apply the lipstick to your lips.
On the other side is a spatula, which you use to take the color out of the well and put it on the plate. Anastasia has made certain that when you retrieve, lift, and mix colors, it will be totally hygienic.

The color goes on satiny, and becomes matte. If you want to make the color more glossy, use a basic, clear gloss on top. If you want to make the matte a “super matte”, add translucent powder, use a teensy weensy amount and use a brush to tap it onto your lips, on top of the lipstick. The tough thing about a palette where you customize your own shade is, when you go out, how do you reapply when you don’t have a bullet? My advise is to purchase a retractable lip brush, and put extra color on the brush so you can touch up with the brush later.

You shop makeup counter to makeup counter, and even with all those brands and shades out there, you can’t find what you are looking for? Or, did you love a certain shade, and one day it no longer existed because it was discontinued? This Palette is the answer to those problems!
